Hello Fantasizers! Hope you all are doing great. I just wanted to share one of my prominent issue with MD. I am not able to complete any task which I start to follow on a regular basis. I think of following a schedule but feel demotivated really soon. I have tried to keep up the momentum several times but failed always. I even tried having a strict time table but once if I start daydreaming, I miss the flow and lose the motivation to follow it in future. Do you guys feel the same sometimes? If yes then please share or else if you have some suggestions, please let me know. I really want my day to be a bit more productive and better than yesterday.
Thanks for taking out time to read this.

I'm like this all day everyday. I have so much I need to get done but never get around to doing. I try and set very small goals or set an alarm where I do 15 minutes of an activity in an attempt to get things done in small parts so its not overwhelming but even then I often fail to get things done.

I do this a lot too. I think most of us do. Motivation is a really big issue for MDers. Actually doing things requires effort and time and daydreaming is instant satisfaction, as well as a distraction from real life.

Thanks for taking out time to read this. Yep. This is me. I’ll wash clothes, but never fold it. If it’s folded, I won’t put it away. Even when I could finish a project, I suddenly get tired or distracted. I’m really self conscious about this now after I stayed with my cousin and she pointed it out. Every time I’d start doing things like cooking, or vacuuming, I’d get distracted and never finish. I think I do this for (at least) a couple of reasons. If it’s a simple task, finishing it means I’m free to start another one, and that scares me. I start second guessing as to what I “should do” next. If it’s complex, my OCD with perfectionism kicks in and that opens a big can of worms. I need to buy the right tools, research the project, make notes, etc. A few years back I was prescribed something that helped A LOT. I began to take it once more, but it hasn’t been as effective. if the reason is physical (medicine interaction, mold issue in home, etc) or emotional (current level of depression/anxiety, increase in ptsd triggers, etc).

Thanks for taking out time to read this. I felt that I wrote this. I try new things all the time to stay on track, and retry some things that I didn't give enough time before, but I soon can't keep it up. It's especially awful when it comes to homework. I often feel I don't belong in and don't deserve to be in college because of it.

I feel like it's safe to say lots of people struggle with focus and motivation. You're not alone. My suggestions: - Break your task into smaller chunks so it's more manageable. Write them down or use an app. "Workout Monday, Wednesday, Friday this week" is specific. "Get fit for the summer" is too vague and broad.
- Each day set specific goals for yourself using these small chunks. Don't set too many, just enough to keep you busy.
- Give yourself a reward for a job well done. A coffee, favorite snack, etc.

Hi I totally understand what you're going through cause I'm the same. I started reading like 10 or 12 books during quarantine but finished none of them, also it's the same for movies or my guitar practicing, etc. I suddenly get tired of them and go for something new. For studying I somehow managed it, ya know, I put a reward or punishment for myself (as one of the dear dreamers also mentioned) like, make myself finish that thing or I won't let me do what I like, I don't let me use my phone or eat what I like that day. or vise versa I can promise myself if I finish this article or this translation, I would buy me a book. Hope it will help Xx

I feel like training myself to get around this problem is the most important goal in my life. I am surprised lockdown hasn't helped with this but it has made MD worse.

I feel like training myself to get around this problem is the most important goal in my life. I am surprised lockdown hasn't helped with this but it has made MD worse. For a lot of us, the lockdown has made our MD worse because of increased stress levels (MD is an escapist coping mechanism) and/or being alone more.

i've literally just learnt about MD a few minutes ago by googling "why do I daydream so much?". this is my biggest issue for years. when i get stressed i just float away even in the middle of doing something. for example i'm cleaning my room. one minute i'm cleaning the mirror then the next i'm making my bed and i don't even realize i've switched tasks. i had to find this forum because just an hour ago i caught myself daydreaming to my music while i thought i was finishing some schoolwork. the daydreams are wonderful, i've had them since i was very young however now its taken my ability to focus at all. when i'm under pressure it unconsciously just switches on then i'm daydreaming the better outcome of my stressors.
