Hello, I'm new in that forum and I don't know if my MD it affects me in a negative way or positive. In general I daydreaming about an hour a day, maybe a little more with 30 minutes, it depends on my mood, they do not affect my daily activities, such as learning for exams, reading books, housework, and more. I generally dream when I don't have an occupation, for example when I'm waiting for something or when I just walk down the street alone, if I'm with a person I talk to her, I'm if I'm an antisocial person, I have no problems in that sense, it may help me that I am good at IT and math and in high school, I help many colleagues to pass the exams. Now I am a university student, and so on, I talk to colleagues, sometimes we meet and learn together. as I said before, I generally daydreaming when I'm alone when I wake up in the morning, and before I go to bed, I often fall asleep while about my world. I like to dream about my world, to create new stories, characters, now I intend to write a book, but I don't even want to get out of control about my MD, I don't know that it's called MD, I didn't have time to research too much about this because I had exams in that period. Anyway, I need some advice about this, is it possible to get out of control? or does it affect me negatively? should i worry about something? Thank you in advance!

For people to have this way of daydreaming and it does not effect any aspects of their life as such this more immersive daydreaming not saying that what you are experiencing is not what we go through but in the name as you are wondering maladaptive in itself means something bad I have at least 3 maladaptive habits including my daydreaming. As for your questions you seem like you have control if you can do your tasks for the day and enjoy some time in your world. No I don't think you should worry but that been said you have here for anything that you are concerned about we are always here to listen and help out whenever you needs us.

Your daydreaming does not sound like it had reached the "maladaptive" stage. If you are keeping it to less than 2 hours a day and it is not interfering with regular activities and real life then you are an imaginative person with an active fantasy life and a large internal world but you are not dealing with MDD. Daydreaming isn't all bad. In fact, there are a lot of good things about it. It just becomes a problem when it occupies a major portion of your waking hours and when you do it instead of things like work, school and having real relationships.

I agree with piphirho, your daydreaming doesn't seem to be all that maladaptive yet. In general, I consider daydreaming to be maladaptive if it interferes with your real life and/or it causes you significant distress. That doesn't seem to be the case for you. However, knowing that you're already a very imaginative person can be helpful in recognizing when your daydreaming starts to become more maladaptive. You already daydream quite a bit, so it likely wouldn't take much for it to become maladaptive.
