Hey all!
Here's the data for week two and brief update on what worked for me and what didn't.
Sunday: 1h35m
Monday: 2h10m
Tuesday: 1h45m
Wednesday: 55m
Thursday: 1h6m
Friday: 1h18m
Saturday: 3h30m
(Red = days worked)
What worked: - Waking up and doing my Latin on Duolingo help me to focus more for the entire day, the later I put it off till the less I got done overall and the more frequently I found myself giving in to daydreaming. - Listening to an educational or self-improvement video on Youtube, not 100% sure but I think the lack of triggers combined with the motivational support decreased my desire to be distracted so I could put off MD for longer. - Doing things that required my attention for longer periods such as embroidery, reading (non-fiction), and cleaning. - Setting a Podmodoro timer when wanting to MD helped me reduce the time spent in my daydream worlds overall by about half a session, by starting the timer just before I choose my MD sessions first song of choice, it worked about 70% of the time I used this technique.
- about what I would be choosing to think about if I wasn't MD in that moment... turns out I have a range of random, interesting, and uncomfortable topics that I'm just habitually suppressing. Huh.
What didn't: - Cooking or cleaning... or doing much of anything while listening to music. Music is a massive trigger for me, and it is a go to comfort when bored or tired, and if I didn't have a timer set for it then I'd get lost in the worlds. - Getting a new fandom obsession and binging all of the available (to-my-standard) stories about my chosen otp. Yup, that didn't help... at all. It was fun doing the reading, but MD over it for ages throughout the week (esp' on Saturday) was a waste of time. - Ignoring my chosen coping hobbies in favour of MD time. This was more of a problem at work and mainly on the bus to get to and from work because I just didn't have the option to go and do embroidery or piano. Saying that, I have done Latin on the bus once or twice this week for about 5-ish mins a time but it's just not long enough.
What I can try: - Watching the self-improvement/science/philosophy videos on the bus and setting a timer to help avoid distraction. - Continuing to use the meta-thought technique prioritizing it's use while at work.
On a final gleeful note, I'm happy to share that I partly achieved my goal on Wednesday this week by keeping MD to under an hour! For the first time in years, I'm making strides. I'm really getting there!
Let's see how this week goes.
Wish me luck!

Good luck. :-) How are you timing your MD so well? When something triggers me I drop into it and totally lose track of time.

Thanks The timing is easier to keep for me because I'm usually aware of when I'm about to start MD and I check the time, after I can choose to set a timer or take note of how long the session lasted the next time I look at the clock, and then open the Jorte app and make a note of how long it's been in the memos section of the MD Control Task I created. For my time at work, I usually round up and keep a note of the five or so min sessions that build up during the day, and make note as soon as my shift ends.

, I honestly aspire to do what you're doing. Keep it up! It kind of gives me hope that one day I can learn to manage mine
