Hi, I'm new here. I saw a video of someone explaining how he had been daydreaming his entire life and now knows that it's actually a mental disorder or something (yeah sorry for my english 😂) And what he said fit me very well, so I googled it and I thought "well maybe I have it". But then I realised, that many people are actually triggred by something, or are interrupted in daily tasks, which makes it problematic. But, to find out if I have it or not, you should probably know what I do: I started daydreaming when I was eight, it wasn't really triggred by something, I just liked the movie "dragons" and I wanted to be part of that world. So I created my own character and lived as that character. I made up a few other storylines, but mostly I just tried to put my character into the story. I did that with every movie and book I liked, right now it's a mixture between Doctor Who and an alternate reality where I live all my dreams (well, there are some parts of it, that are not so happy, but that makes it interesting). I can pretty much control my daydreaming, I always do it to fall asleep or when I'm bored for example in class or on a long car ride. I act out only very few of the scenes, most of the time I just move my lips or make a face or smile, depending on the situation. But - and I'm very aware that that is good - it doesn't interrupt my daily life, sometimes I drift off, but mostly I can consentrate. Does that still mean, that I have md? Or am I just daydreaming a lot? Anyways, thanks for reading my post, have a nice day and drink something 🙃

I can pretty much control my daydreaming, I always do it to fall asleep or when I'm bored for example in class or on a long car ride. I act out only very few of the scenes, most of the time I just move my lips or make a sad face or smile, depending on the situation. But - and I'm very aware that that is good - it doesn't interrupt my daily life, sometimes I drift off, but mostly I can consentrate. Does that still mean, that I have md? Or am I just daydreaming a lot? Anyways, thanks for reading my post, have a nice day and drink something 🙃 Hi and welcome to daydream in blue. I can relate to you but don't think its maladaptive daydreaming as experiences to be meet for it it is when it get in the way of life is some way or other between, No focus on tasks, interrupts self care and motivation, causes pain if we can't control it and pain around mental health issues. I can relate to you on how you daydream in a good level so if we say it does not bother us in reality then its leans towards immersive daydreaming which I can go between immersive and maladaptive or some days I don't daydream at all happens at least 5 times a year for me only looking back on the last few years doe.

Thank you for answering me, I didn't know about this until yesterday, so I'm not common with the differences... (I hope that makes sense) I now read an article about the differences and I'm pretty sure now that I'm not a maladaptive daydreamer, but probably an immersive daydreamer... So I'm just gonna disappear from this website, I had a good time 😂
