Daydreaming is a way to escape from reality, so when you're going through (or trying to recover from) traumatic events, it makes sense that your daydreaming would be more maladaptive and controlling than usual.
Truthfully, the only thing that's going to help in the long term is properly processing the trauma you're trying to escape from. Do you have a therapist or someone who can help you do that?
