Hi, I'm a 30 year old Zulu guy from South Africa and I've been day dreaming since I was 11. Growing up I enjoyed it, I enjoyed the escape, creating amazing worlds and crazy scenarios in my head, I never thought it was a problem until a major life changing event, I started paying attention to my mental health and started on a journey of self awareness, only now do I realize that this takes up so much of my time and stops me from being productive. There's been times when analyzing what I day dream about, what triggers it has led me to understanding myself better and that has made me wonder if there's any positives to this? I'm hoping to find answers and hear other people's stories to better understand all this

Welcome to the forum!
Maladaptive daydreaming is often used as a coping mechanism and that's a positive. True, it's often an unhealthy coping mechanism because of how much it interferes with your life (similarly to other behavioral addictions like shopping or gambling), but it has helped you to deal with things that have been difficult.
