Heyy.. I'm 19, and a daydreamer since I was 4-5 y/o. It was just something I did and it was kinda fun yk being in your own lil world, but growing up it increased especially in my high school I day dreamed alot and in college it got out of control. College wasn't the best time, things weren't working out for me so it was an escape, I either watched lots of dramas or day dreamed and had no idea what was going on around me. When my friends asked how did I not feel about stuff and didn't care about getting good grades, never went out, made no new friends etc I simply said I enjoy my own company. With bad grades, I could just imagine getting good grades, no friends and fun? imagine it, probems? Imagine having none, and that made me happy enough to not care about reality. I never thought of it as a problem until recently I learnt in a psychology lesson that excessive daydreaming can be a sign of some other problem so I looked it up and came across MD. It still is a coping mechanism for me with all the things that go wrong. Now that I think about it, it actually is something I need to overcome. I'm so used to escaping problems that now the slightest one can give me really bad anxiety. Also I sometimes perceive the small things too negatively, and it eventually affects my relationships. With other problems it's easier to talk to friends but daydreaming for some reason is weird and uncomfortable to talk about. Just hoping to learn how to reduce this and stop running from problems:)

Welcome to the forum!
Everyone daydreams to some extent, especially children. However, our daydreaming interferes with our ability to function in real life.
