Hi, I literally just found out about MD and was wondering if it applies to me in any way. I have been placing myself in imaginary worlds, usually fictional worlds that I read about, and interacting with the characters from there. I usually add other characters into the world as well because I search for a specific type of relationship. Whenever I do homework, I always imagine myself in those worlds and even when I am walking around school or in the city.
It doesn't concern me in any way yet because I just thought it was a coping mechanism because I never tell people about the stress I feel, and I feel safer and calmer when surrounded by the fictional characters. It feels like they are always there.
I just wanted to know if this fits the description of someone that has MD. I have never went for a checkup for anything regarding my mental health and probably won't for a while, but I just wanted to know if I could potentially put a name on my daily habits. Probably just a way of validating the things that I do.
Anyways, that's all from me.

As it turns out fellow traveler, I don’t think you are alone in this. I made a previous Post just like yours without having even read this one, a coincidence I think not

Welcome to the forum!
Generally, the difference between regular daydreaming and maladaptive daydreaming is the level it interferes with your ability to function in real life. Maladaptive daydreaming is named such because it prevents you from functioning normally—often in completing tasks for work or school and maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships. If your daydreaming doesn’t interfere, but seems to be very strong or vivid, it might just be immersive daydreaming, which is totally normal :)

If it is something you cannot stop even if your are trying hard, even if it is making your miserable, if you feel you are habituated to the mental stimulation that MD provides, if your spend more time here than anywhere else, if your are lagging horribly in real life experiances then my friend this probably is Md.
