does anybody here know some alternative coping mechanisms besides daydreaming ? im not in a place where i can stop but id like to try replacing it with something else now and then to see if it works. i have ocd and cant meditate or anything similiar to that. things like drawing, listening to music, and going outside are all daydream triggers :/ any suggestions would be helpful

That’s a tough one. I think the first step is identifying why you do it eg. for me I’m really lonely and I want people to like me etc so I DD about being popular, identifying that definitely helps. When I’m really bad I do regulation exercises to “get back in my body”, that can be just shaking your arms and legs, doing a handstand against a wall, progressive muscle relaxation technique, breathing, start small with a 10 minute yoga video. I think a big problem with MDD is that it helps fill whatever void we’re experiencing so I think DD help us all (but not really), that’s why stopping is so hard. Set a reminder in your phone for every 5 minutes to do one of those things and I promise it will get a little easier day by day

I've tried to do knitting or crochet whenever I had an urge to daydream, and it actually worked for a while, but not too long.
