Hello, I am new here. I just found out about MD this morning and I am so glad I did. I have had this condition for the vast majority of my life, but got fed up today. Previously, my daydreams have interfered with my life to a crazy degree: school, family, friends, sleep, and I knew it was a problem. Whenever I get stressed or feel any strong emotion, I sink into a daydream. Sometimes they start to layer where I am in one daydream world/scenario and then I go into a second one which I juggle with the first. Does anyone else get this? The more I daydream though, the worse I ultimately feel because I have lost more time than I can afford to it. I realized last semester that now that I'm in college it has been getting worse along with my depression which I could and still can usually forget about when I daydream. Does anyone else do/experience that? Now I can't stay out of a daydream for 20 minutes at a time unless it's a good day. I sometimes feel like I am losing my life to it. Anyway, enough of the bad stuff... I am 19, a college student, and on this website to connect with others who understand what dealing with MD is like and are open to sharing their own experiences.

Welcome to the forum! I also tend to daydream whenever I'm feeling a strong emotion. I think its because a) I feel more in control of my life in my daydreams and more capable of doing something to rectify whatever situation caused the strong emotions and b) I think that shifting my emotions onto my daydreams, especially my idealized self, sort of blunts the strength of the emotion. I have bipolar disorder and I tend to feel things incredibly strong. Even small things can create emotions so strong that I feel like I'm going to drown. So pushing that emotion off onto someone else (my daydream self) can really help alleviate some of the strength of my emotions. Additionally, a lot of people use daydreaming as a coping skill for unpleasant things in their lives, depression being one of them. So know that you're not alone in feeling the way and doing the things that you do.
