Like the title says and the poll ask I’m curious as to how others create their dream worlds and what they are based in.
I feel like most will at one point or another do each depending on many factors but I’m referring to the majority of the time and you’re “usual “
In a really good movie I’ll put my self in it or in. A movie whose ending I didn’t like I’d rewrite but I can also watch a lot of movies with out day dreaming.
For me it’s almost always fantasy worlds and often of my own creation. But I’ve been know to day dream of the real world with a few slight modifications. Usually if I’m in an “unknown” spot when I start to day dream. I’m in the army so when I move it takes me time to get used to my new area and day dream my fantasy worlds..

It depends on my mood/trigger. It can be my own created world: but not by zero, I've picked all that fits to me from fictional worlds and combined togheter changing here and there and adding my own ideas. Or it can be the real world, or a fictional one, but I adjust them to fit on my preferences.

It depends on my mood and trigger for me. And I've found that my MD worlds have changed throughout my life. As a child and teen all my DDs were about worlds from books, movies, and video games. Now it's mostly a world I've created, sometimes worlds based on movies and shows, and sometimes worlds based on historical periods. I also have DDs based on real life and I think these are the most harmful ones for my mental health.

It really depends on the trigger and how I'm feeling in my life. I mostly have to agree with what Wither said.
I'll often start a new world by taking a Sci-Fi/Fantasy world that I like, rewriting the plot, adding some characters, adding one in for me, etc. Sometimes I'll create ones from scratch. While not intentional, I've noticed that my worlds tend to be addressing something in my life that I feel like is lacking. For example, about a year ago I felt super stressed about my college major and career. I felt a bit directionless in life. Coincidentally, all my MDD characters had a super clear path in life, often dictated by some higher power. It helped fill the directionless hole until I figured it out later.
As for day-to-day dreaming, I'll switch around on a weekly basis. Often when I'm walking around and interacting with the real world, my day dream will involve the real world. If I'm sitting around alone listening to music, it will be based in a fantasy world.
