I'm a 20 year old woman and I have been suffering from MDD since childhood. I heard about MDD a few years ago and mentioned it in passing to a few therapists, but I refused to acknowledge it as a real problem until now. I think it has effected my potential marginally. Like I'm doing pretty good by most standards, but I could be doing better. It eats up a lot of my free time, which I usually fight by forcing myself to go out and about. Recently it's been getting harder to avoid daydreams and I've spent a good deal of the last week in a daydreaming haze instead of actually studying for an exam. Anyway, I thought that now is as good of a time as any to reach out to other people with the condition and see how they deal with it.

Hi, welcome to the forum! Sorry about it being a bit dead right now, I think people have been off doing other things the past few days. Personally, I haven't been on that often because of being so busy in my real life.
Anyways, most everyone here has similar experiences to you. I know that when I first heard about maladaptive daydreaming, I refused to believe that it was something I actually had or did, and it took me about a year to really come to terms with the fact that I did, actually, have it and do it. The whole "eats up a lot of my free time" thing is, I think, one of the main signals that your daydreaming has moved from something that's normal and natural and onto something that's harmful and even out of control.
I mentioned that there aren't many people interacting with the forum right now, and that's true, but there are still a bunch of threads that talk about people's experiences and tips that you might find helpful.
I'm going to do my best to be a bit more active on here, so if you have any questions or whatever, feel free to message me and I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can. I really hope you find the support you're looking for here.

Welcome to the forum! Forcing myself to go out and be social is one of the main things I have been doing as well. It helps.
