I have a really hard time watching movies with characters that can’t seem to get it together and keep messing up.
Yet that is me in real life..
Sometimes I feel like I keep playing the same role in different plots and times in my life..
It’s like a director has sat me down and explained the character… So you are going to be playing a out of shape and messy person. That wants to be healthy and organized. Who is kinda successful but also can’t seem to get their life together, so they feel like a fraud. You also have a lot of false starts and zone out a lot…
What drives me nuts is that 90% of the time I know what the right choice should be and I keep doing the opposite.

One of the reasons why movies and books are so appealing is they give us the ability to step into the characters' shoes and feel their emotions and experiences. When you want to watch a movie (especially if you daydream maladaptively), you're looking for an escape from real life. You're drawn to characters that are powerful, badass, beautiful; that have their lives together (or are at least moving in that direction). So if you feel bad about where you are in real life, seeing yourself and your experiences in a character can be unpleasant because it doesn't give you that sense of being "better" than how you feel about yourself in real life.
