Hi, I am new to this board. I was a Maladaptive Daydreamer for many years. This habit started when I was about 8 years old and was bad (i.e., very consuming of my attention and time) on and off for many years. For various reasons, my daydreaming diminished around the age of thirty. I literally "lost" my college years because, for those four years, I barely lived in the real world. I think this was my way of coping with a very bad relationship. Now I am sixty-one years old and I rarely daydream - this coping mechanism vanished with age. I have only recently learned that Maladaptive Daydreaming is an identified pattern with a label. I look forward to looking around this board and hearing other people's stories. It's interesting that Maladaptive Daydreaming isn't widely known or discussed. I think this tool had a major impact on my youth and my development during key years of my life and therefore I am interested in learning more about the impact it has had on other people who coped in this manner.
