i am from the U.S., i'm 19 and I have been a MDer since I was maybe around 9 or 10 (i'm honestly when this all started). growing up, i always thought that it was a normal thing to do, i always thought to myself "what do "normal" people think of?" i never really thought that MD wasn't a thing that everyone did. usually my dreams are about romance, and is triggered by my celebrity crush...Harry Styles. Before One Direction became a thing, I would just daydream about my school crush but ever since I became a fan of the band, I have created a world in my head that I just can't seem to stop. I have a feeling that I am not able to stop because I am very lonely, even though I am living with my family. I don't talk to any of my "friends" for other reasons and I have never had a boyfriend, so i daydream to compensate for the loneliness. i am so glad that i found this page today while researching MD and how to overcome it! i am also considering going cold turkey to try and stop but i have tried several times in the past and i can't help but have an overwhelming love to daydream.

Welcome to the forum!
For most of us, going cold turkey just isn't very effective. However, it's important to note that daydreaming itself is a normal and necessary function, and you shouldn't try to get rid of it. The maladaptive portion, the part that interferes with your ability to live your real life the way you want to, is something that's okay to want to get rid of, but completely getting rid of daydreaming isn't a very viable goal.
