Hi,🙂 I hope everyone is well and keeping safe during Covid-19. My name is Jo, I am 30 years old I've recently been doing some researching into imaginary friends and adults when I accidentally came across imaginary friends/daydreaming and adults when I came across this thing called Maladaptive day dreaming and oh my gosh already a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders to know that other people suffer from this to.
This is only me self diagnosing of course but it makes so much sense. Like other people I (think) suffer from anxiety and have always been shy since I was little ( 5 years old) so I created my own fantasy world to escape to and the older I got the worse it became but I could never tell anyone about it because I was scared and embarrassed and felt like I was the only one going through it. For me my fantasy world was totally made up of Disney characters, honestly they were/are like my best friends ever but I've always been able to decipher between what was real and what wasnt but I so badly wanted them to be real and to be the character I created in this world that I would stay for hours and hours.
Anyway sorry for long post ! But would be lovely to talk to other people who may also have maladaptive day dreaming.
Take care 🙂
Jo

Welcome to the forum, Jo!
All of us are self diagnosed, so don't worry about that. Not very many medical professionals know that MD exists since its such a newly recognized disorder.
