Hello everyone! My name is Bea, i´m 19 years old and I am from Santiago, Chile. I was shocked (and a little scared) when just yesterday, i discovered (from an instagram meme haha) that what i have been doing for the past ten years has a name and its an actual condition. But i also felt very relieved knowing that i am not alone. I had an awesome childhood, and i still have an awesome life! So i guess i started daydreaming to deal with loneliness, to be the person i was dying to become, or simply because i wanted something else from this life. However, it started to take control over my actual life, and it would´t be enjoyable. Every great thing that would happen in my life would somehow feel overshadowed because of my daydreaming fantasies, and they weren´t even real! Being at home, quarantined has obviously become a perfect enviroment for my mdd, it started to get so out of my control that it began to hurt, so, a couple of weeks ago, in the middle of a tearful breakdown, i decided that it was enough. No more uncontrolled daydreaming for me. I inmediately deleted everything on social media that reminded me of my fantasies and would eventually cause me to drift away again. It hasn´t been easy. My mind automatically takes me to those amazing places that i created as a coping mecanism, but when that starts to happen, i stop myself. I even have to say "no" out loud sometimes, which is really funny to be honest. I am aware of the power and creativity my mind owns, so i want to use it for good! to contribute to this real life! i know that daydreaming is doesn´t necessarily has to be a bad thing! So, don´t get me wrong, i want to keep daydreaming, write down those thoughts, create stories, i eventually want to become a screenwriter and use everything i´ve crafted in my mind in the last few years (tbh, its pretty impressive). I´m at a very decisive stage of my life. And i need to live it to the fullest. I want to keep daydreaming, but i want to have full control of it. I´m really glad i found this forum, so , if you want to talk, share your experiencies and of course, your daydreams, i´m here for you!!

Welcome!
it's so funny how many say they got to know from this instagram meme because I did too;D
I totally agree with you. Daydreaming often makes it easy for me because I can be everyone I want in my dreams but then get lost with my goals in reallife. So I too tried to stop myself sometimes from daydreaming and stay focused on the things that are around me this moment. I also thought about working in movie business because I think it would be a waste (for me) to not use my vivid imagination for something good (since I am a big fan of movies and think that they can give people a lot).

Welcome to the forum, Bea!
Your experience is pretty similar to a lot of ours.
Could you send me the meme? I've heard a lot of people mention learning about MD from instagram recently and I'd love to see the meme.
