Hello. I'm new here and you may refer to me as Flimsy, and any pronouns are fine. I've been daydreaming since I was about seven. It was really bad when I was younger, I lost entire days to daydreams. For middle school and most of high school I had my daydreaming under control, but ever since the pandemic hit my daydreaming has gotten a lot worse to the point where I could only keep up with two out of eight classes. Maybe it's stress or losing the structure that school gave me ( daydreaming for me is always worse in the summertime). Anyway, I'm in college now and it is impacting my school life greatly. I'm really behind and it's making me anxious. I wish maladaptive daydreaming was study more thoroughly and actually considered a disorder. I want to get diagnosed but I read that most people who have MD get diagnosed with schizophrenia. Also, I'm considering getting accommodation from my uni but I don't know what accommodations would even work for someone who maladaptively daydreams.

Welcome to the forum!
Stress is definitely a trigger for MD. It often functions as an unhealthy coping mechanism, so treating it as such might be effective.
Honestly, it depends on how your college works, but I highly doubt they'll give you accommodations for MD. I have accommodations from my college for my migraines and the process of getting accommodations includes getting a doctor to fill out a form proving your illness impacts your functioning and explaining why you need accommodations. Because MD isn't widely recognized, getting a doctor to do that doesn't seem likely.
