Hey guys my name is Nisha and I'm 20 turning 21 this year. I'm from Capetown South Africa. I found out about MD today on Facebook. It interested me because it spoke about daydreaming uncontrollably or in certain situations. I went online to find out more about it because I've been having daydreams two years after the abuse started. I don't know ha ow but one day I just started seeing myself as my favourite fictional character from movies, novels and anime. I read all the symptoms about MD and everything seemed to line up. From the triggers to the feelings. I think I'll go see a therapist for a proper diagnosis because this feels like all my fears have come true and want my life back, I dont want to lose the love of my life cause of this.

Welcome to the forum, Nisha!
Unfortunately, most mental health professionals don’t know that MD exists, let alone how to treat it, as it’s a relatively newly recognized condition and it’s not in the DSM or ICD yet.
However, if you have something you feel is causing it, like trauma or something like that, a therapist can absolutely help you treat that and your MD should theoretically get better as you feel the need to escape less.
