Hello, I can't explain how relieved I am to have found forums etc. of other Maladaptive Daydreamers. I've daydreamed for as long as I can remember to escape a somewhat troubled home life but it has just completely taken over. I can daydream for hours at a time, day after day. Music triggers it and it makes me pace endlessly. I talk to myself, laugh at jokes that haven't been said and am constantly simulating my daydream with facial expressions which must look insane to anyone who sees me Reading other people's experiences lets me know that at least I'm not completely alone, despite living in my head most of the time. If anyone reads this, I'd love to hear anyone's advice on dealing with this compulsive daydreaming? Robyn x

Welcome to the forum! As much as it sucks cutting out music was a big first step for me. I keep it confined to the car because that works well enough to not make me insane.

I actually put together a word document the other day for my daydreaming, and I shared it with the forum. Basically, it goes off of habit reversal training, which is often used for other compulsive actions. I couldn't see any reason why it wouldn't work for maladaptive daydreaming as well, so I made a recording sheet to aid in that process. Here's the link to the thread, check it out if you'd like.

I find it's almost a reflex now. I don't even know my headphones are in until it's too late! I'll start trying to withstand the compulsion though if it helps!
