...Earlier today I found myself acting out some of the gestures in a daydream that I was having then suddenly realized that this is something I've been doing for 20 years strong. I'm overwhelmed by this discovery and at this point I dont know how to feel..Is my life that bad I started using this form of daydreaming excessively. Why on earth do I do this? :( Is this some type of coping mechanism?? Does it help me ? Does it damage me the more I do it? Should I see someone about this? Why do I feel embarrassed and guilty:( Im new here and I have faith that this forum can help me figure things out. I hope we all find what we're looking for and it truly helps.

Welcome to forum ari. Its starts off as a coping mechanism and it helps us in certain ways if we are anxious its a ways to get away from it all or lonely it gives us comfort. Its not good in ways that its a unhealthy approach to deal with certain issues and makes us feel more alone when we come back to reality. There is no one really that we can turn to yet to give us help as it not a known disorder as of yet. You can get support for it here and talk to any of us when you need to. I never felt embarrassed over it more that its time wasting but that something that is out of our control. Hope you find what you are looking for in the forum.

Hi Ari Welcome to the forum.
I think for most of us MD is a form of escapism and for many different reasons ranging from trauma to boredom. Hopefully with being here and talking to others who are struggling to keep their daydreaming under control you'll begin to figure out why you are excessively daydreaming and what things you could put into place to gain better control over it. x

...Earlier today I found myself acting out some of the gestures in a daydream that I was having then suddenly realized that this is something I've been doing for 20 years strong I've also found myself acting out both gestures and facial expressions and its really annoying cause I wont realize I'm doing it and I'll be on the bus or some public place and feel like a fool

Thank you all for taking the time out to respond to me. That overwhelming feeling is gone now I guess realizing that I was actually doing this stuff made it a bit tough in the beginning but Im better now. What do you guys do to help yourselves when you realize what you're doing?

Hey, Ari, welcome to the forum! Do you still do it out in the open..how does it make you feel while you are doing it? It happens, but I try no to do it publicly. Feels good, it's the 'after' part that gets to me, all the stuff I should have been doing instead.
