Daydreaming does cause certain endorphins and such to be released in your body, but I've personally never heard of this specific thing happening. That doesn't necessarily mean that its not the cause, but I would recommend looking in to other physical causes before assuming that its your MD.

waw!!! that would explain why I have this much body hair: I was daydreaming of being a male all along my teen years!
Obviously I'm joking, that's because I'm Italian, but there was this physician, Dr. Hammer, that would explain lots of human and animal diseases as a response to the environmental stress, or as an adaptive response to a prolonged non-stressful situation. I've found out that in my case that was mostly true: coincidentally, during high-stress times, it was easy to get sick, I was experiencing way worse PMS, very smelly sweat, bad sleep, (all things hormone-linked) and sure as hell a worsening ad total out of control MDD. So in my case, MDD is linked to hormonal imbalance, because it's a mental association. So, if your gut tells you that they are linked, at least, I would check if there are some external circumstances that could explain both your MDD and your hormonal imbalance.
But I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of hormonal imbalance was caused by MDD: I'm sure that if I was tested during or soon after an uplifting session on daydreaming, they would find a lot of endorphins! After all, I've been doing that because of the following feeling of euphoria. And I believe they are some sort of hormones, who knows what else they can do to our body after years of overexposing! Plus, I can't stop MDD because it's addictive, a kind of addiction that, to me, it's similar to gambling addiction (source: I had gambling addiction), and I know that addiction is linked to endorphins, so... What a twist if MDD was actually caused by some hormonal imbalance!!!!!
