Hi! I found this site on accident while looking up symptoms of maladaptive daydreaming for no reason other than I supposed my subconcious wanted to make sure what I have is real. Real quick, my name is Josephina, but I go by Jo, I'm 21 and I believe I started having symptoms at around 5th grade. Ever since then its been the same story. Granted I changed it A LOT throughout the years of course. Nowadays though I've gotten many different "AU's", I guess you could call them..., based around the same "main" storyline. An event in real life can trigger a different AU, or getting interested in a movie or a series can somewhat mold a new AU into my head. I make myself laugh, cry, get angry, all because of these daydreams. I haven't told anyone except a few close friends but when I told them, it was mostly a "hey I daydream a lot lol" Of course I'm scared to. Scared of what they think. How they'll react when I tell them 80% of the day I spend daydreaming and thinking about these characters that I'm so attached to that are only real to me. It does sound crazy. One of my closest friends has tried to push information out of me, like who these characters are, the plot, why I love them/it so much it. But it made me real uncomfortable. So, I think finding this site will be good for me. I've never talked about my dreams too much and I think I need to.
Thanks for reading if you did, I'll be active again in about an hour to answer anyone who comments!

Hi Jo
Being scared is understandable, and the fact that MDD is not something a lot of people know about, and even most of mental health professoinals haven't heard the name yet, adds to that feeling. I hope we can help each other in overcoming that.

Hello, im also 21 and as far as i can remember i started daydreaming when i was like 10. the only thing is that i have diffferent kinds of daydreams. my daydreams depends on my mood, emotion and my real life situation. i believe that all our daydreams have a hidden message that's trying to say something. Im also new here and thanks for sharing your story!
